Taking a tip from Napoleon Hill, "Every adversity, every failure, every heartbreak, carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit."
For many COVID has really knocked their feet out from under them. Fear, worry, stress, depression, and loss have become regular com- panions. The lack of socialization has compounded all of these. And research supports this.

Rather than the new normal, I’m seeking the seed of an equal or greater benefit... The new better.
Reflecting on the positives and negatives of 2020 may yield a longer negative list than positive but if you put your mind to it, you will find far more positives than you may have thought of at first. So here we go...

An opportunity to use my gifts for others.
The evidence that chronic loneli- ness is bad for our physical and men- tal health is undeniable. Many of you reading this have experienced loneli- ness over the past ten months. With it came many additional risks for other chronic conditions including diabetes, mental illness, and dementia. Immune system challenges created additional risk for disease transmission making isolation all the more needed. Even though isolation became important to reduce the risk of disease transmis- sion, it can also accelerate the risk for decreased functioning of the immune system, making it even more risky to be around others. It is quite a cycle.

One new study evaluated the connection between loneliness and hunger. The study completed in the U.K. found that when people crave company, the same part of their brain lights up as when they crave food. The research supports the intuitive notion that socializing is a basic human need, akin to eating. We are people who need people.
