Thank you, Calhoun County for vote of confidence and trust in Senior Millage.
in October. I am excited about this new opportunity for Senior Millage to fund stra- tegically needed projects in the community.
the Senior Millage for another ten years. With the cancelation of special events
this year including the annual Senior Fair in Marshall, Centenarian Luncheon at Schuler’s Restaurant, Senior Day at the Ball Park and Senior Day at the County Fair, and the stay at home order, it has been a strange year. This vote of confidence by Calhoun County voters is a much-needed bright spot in 2020. I am so proud of how service providers in the aging network have quickly responded to senior needs
Millages do not renew themselves. Again thank you to all the voters that voted yes and thank you to the Renew for Senior ballot campaign. Promoting Senior Millage renewal took a lot of hard work and coor- dinated effort by determined individuals. Please join me in thanking people who were instrumental in the renewal. Richard Lindsey, a Marshall attorney and Senior Millage Allocation Committee member, and Sherii Sherban, publisher and owner
of Senior Times, who together chaired the ballot renewal campaign. Sherii coordinat- ed the yard sign efforts from completing final designs to the ordering of the yard signs that popped up countywide while Richard worked the community distrib- uting the yard signs. Richard and Sherii helped garner social media coverage along with front-page coverage of the work that Senior Millage funds in each of the area local papers.

THANK YOU VOTERS
As I write this, my heart is filled with gratitude. Approximately 25% of reg- istered voters in Calhoun County cast ballots in the August 4, 2020 election. Voters overwhelmingly approved renew- al of the County’s Senior Millage while also approving the County’s new Parks Millage along with all other proposals on the ballot in the county. Senior Millage renewal received 82% approval as 19,045 people voted yes while 4,243 people voted no. Thank you, Calhoun County voters, for saying yes to seniors and renewing

EMBRACE THE POSSIBILITIES
in our community by changing intake processes, ensuring safety procedures, increasing outreach, and expanding food box distribution.
Senior Millage Allocation Committee members all helped spread the work about the importance of the renewal. Local estate planning attorney, Diane Peters, served as campaign treasurer and went business to business in Marshall to distribute flyers. Michelle Hill helped distribute yard signs. Venders helped spread coverage of services that Senior Millage funds, Karla Fales and CareWell Services created a Facebook page and did radio advertising. Senior Health Partners, Community Action, and Senior Services of Southwest Michigan distributed literature and helped pay for yard signs.
The 22 different Senior Millage-funded services have responded quickly to COVID response restrictions and requirements. While Marian E. Burch Adult Day Care and the senior centers in Albion and Marshall are still closed, all other pro- grams are operating, demonstrating the good work that Senior Millage funds in the county.
Thank you, voters for recognizing the value Senior Millage brings to our commu- nity. We look forward to another ten years of promoting health, safety, and indepen- dence for Calhoun County older adults, age 60 and over. If you are a Calhoun County senior who may benefit from a Senior Millage program, please call our office at (269) 781-0846.
Currently, Calhoun County Senior Millage has a request for proposals out for projects needing one-time fund- ing for new, performance-based, cre- ative projects that serve older adults. Requests are due on August 25.
The Calhoun County Board of Commission will approve new projects
