 DECISION TIME
After months of lock-down, and after days of power outages following the June 10 severe thunderstorm, all
of us are ready for a break. This year, though, there's no time to do more than pause, because there's so much coming next.
On July 2, 2020, Michigan's new hybrid auto no-fault law takes effect. There are opportunities to save pre- mium dollars, but there too is more responsibility as we shop cafeteria-style for auto insurance coverage. This is especially true for senior drivers, who must weigh savings associated with opting out of personal injury protec- tion ("PIP") coverage in contrast to
the greater protections associated with maintaining status quo coverage. Now is the time to speak with your auto insurance agent to determine what cov- erage at what rate is right for you.
Millage. Our Senior Millage supports county-wide important senior programs like adult day care at the Marian Burch Center; dental services at the Fountain Clinic; and home chore services through Senior Services of Southwest Michigan.

Then it's time to get ready for voting in July, in advance of the August 4, 2020 primary election. New since 2018 is the opportunity to vote in Michigan by absentee ballot regardless of reason. Now's the time to call or write your city or township clerk for an application to vote by absentee ballot. This is a more important right to vote by absentee bal- lot than ever, given the pandemic from which we're just emerging. This absen- tee ballot voting option will give you the chance to study the primary candi- dates and issues from home in lieu of voting in a busy precinct polling place.
I had the privilege of serving on
the Calhoun County Senior Millage Allocation Committee during my time as a Calhoun County commissioner, and I know firsthand how important these programs are to Calhoun County seniors. Please then apply for your absentee voter ballot, and, when you get your ballot, vote "Yes" to renew the Calhoun County Senior Millage for another decade.
