April CaregiverSenior Times - April 2016 Of The Month

Janet Boyce is 78 years young and lives in a world of caregiving for others.
“Ever since I was old enough to remember my mom has been taking care of someone. Be it a neighbor who may be ill, a friend, a relative, someone she just met, and even complete strangers. She has always put everyone else before herself,” said Barb Walters, her daughter.
Most recently, Janet’s caregiving seemed more like the traditional ver-
sion of living as part of the sandwich generation as she cared for her 96 year old mother and her 80 year old husband, except that in this case, they are each a bit older. Both of them required full time care due to their conditions. Most recently, her mother has passed, which allows for a greater focus on other family needs. Her husband still requires traveling for care at least three times per week.
It was no surprise to Barb when Janet sold her home to purchase one that would be suitable to care for her mother and her
husband who both had many health needs. Some of the ways Janet cared for her
loved ones would be through providing food, financial assistance, running errands, running them to the doctor, the hospital, church, the store, and most recently car- ing for her mom, who was suffering with dementia.
“It would be very rare for my mother to be asked for help from anyone and they be turned away,” added Barb.
Janet also volunteers at the hospital gift shop as well as at her church by preparing meals and helping with services when the needs arise; she did so even while caring for her mother before she passed.
“Often I think we lose sight of the care that the caregiver needs and deserves and I am very proud of her.” ~ Barb Walters
Janet Boyce was nominated by her daughter, Barb Walters. She will receive a beautiful bouquet of flowers of thanks as well. Thank you Janet for all you do!
