 Willard Library is here for you at every stage of your education journey.
Young Children – At the foundation of education lies
early literacy, and Willard
Library plays a pivotal role
in fostering a love of reading
from a young age. Through
engaging programs such as
Babytime and Little Explorers Storytimes, caregivers and
children are able to practice
the fundamental building
blocks of literacy in a fun and engaging way. Singing songs,
reading stories, interactive
play, doing age-appropriate
crafts and activities are key ways to intentionally promote early literacy. The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program encourages families to bond through reading, and promotes kin- dergarten readiness, through reading
indispensable ally in the pursuit of knowledge.
Through the ConnectED program, students in Battle Creek Public Schools, Harper Creek Community Schools, Lakeview School District, and Pennfield schools are able to access Willard Library’s digital resources using their student identification number. On-site access to computers, Wi-Fi, and educational software
ensuring students have the resources they need to excel in their stud- ies. In addition, the downtown location’s Teen Room provides a safe, supportive environment after school for students in fifth through 12th grades. Partnerships with local organizations such as Karma House and the YMCA allow students to build their capacity to handle the stresses of daily life in a healthy way. Weekly art classes give teens the opportunity to ex- press their creativity, explore, and make mistakes free of judgment.

Programs through community partnerships, such as Good- will Financial Opportunity Center and Battle Creek Adult Education, provide support for those wishing to finish their high school diploma or earn their GED, take control of their finances, write an effective resume, and more.
Workshops, classes, and programs on a plethora of topics empower individuals to continue their growth beyond the class- room. Whether someone is pursuing a new career, planting a garden, or explor- ing their interest in local history, Willard Library stands as a welcoming space for continued growth and discovery.
Willard Library supports education through every stage of a person’s life. It is a nurturing place for early learners, a sanctuary for students seeking resourc- es, and a haven for lifelong learners pursuing knowledge.
