Art Center Plans ARTrageous
The Art Center of Battle Creek is planning an ARTrageous summer! Our free Kids’ Art Fair will take place in the parking lot on Saturday, July 16 from 10am to 2pm. Lots of fun art activities are planned for outdoors and you can also see the Art of the Skateboard exhibit that will on display in the galleries featuring the work of over 50 skateboard artists in July and August. Our Gift Gallery features the work of over 50 Michigan artists so be sure to visit when looking for that unusual gift. Two Summer Camps for kids in First to Fifth grades will take place in August with one from August 9-11 and one from August 16-18. Enrollment is limited to
10 students in each camp so call the Art Center for more information. Our hours are Tuesday to Thursday and Saturday from 11am to 3pm.
Habitat for Humanity and the Jenna Project
The Jenna Project-Marshall, MI – Over the last few months, a group of Veterans got together to help one in need. Jenna, a Navy Vet from Marshall, has been a resident of Marshall, MI for 79 years. She’s been a regular patron at the Broadway Grille since they opened their doors. Everyone in town knows Jenna. Two months ago she came into the restaurant and she looked exhausted and anxious. I let her know I noticed she didn’t look well and asked what was happening. She let me know a water pipe broke in her house and she was trying to patch it. A local resident went to her home to investigate. What he found was her house was in very poor condition.
Jenna’s home had no working fur- nace, no water, and in looking further, the entire home was in need of repair. The ceilings had insulation falling through, the bathroom was not in working order, the kitchen had holes in the floor, the entire home leaned in one direction. The porch was rotting as well as doors and win- dows in the home bringing cold air into the home. Jenna had a bed in the living room with one small heater plugged in for
