  Veterans Issue
BY ZINTA AISTARS
Home is that safe place, that oasis we all long for, and to no one more than the Veteran who is on faraway shores. Home is worth the battle.
According to Veterans Affairs, nearly 40,000 Veterans experience homelessness on any given night in the United States. SCPP can help Veterans to connect with the financial assis- tance programs needed to support their health needs and keep them living in their homes.

Veteran’s needs.
Among the nearly 600 current participants at Senior Care Partners P.A.C.E. (SCPP) are many Veterans. Now in their golden years, many tell stories of feeling forgotten, of feeling painfully alone in their homes. Yet home, they will tell you, is where they want to stay.
comes first. A lot of places that we go to, they’ll tell you what you can and cannot do. Senior Care Partners will do what you ask them to do, and they will do a good job at it. I’ve been living in my apartment. First thing I asked them about the day center – can I bring my dog? And they had no problem with that.”
“It’s the loneliness these Veterans want to abate,” says Katherine Kemp, director of enrollment and marketing at SCPP. “That’s where we come in. Senior Care Partners makes it possible for Veterans to remain in the homes that they love and where they feel safe. But we also give them the help they need to live at home. We can help to remind them that they are not forgotten.”
Whatever the participant needs to remain home safely, or to participate in the social activities comfortably, SCPP will do. From transportation to and from, to providing meals either at home or at the facility, light house- keeping, running errands, arranging medical appointments – SCPP takes those worries away.
With locations in Kalamazoo, Portage, Battle Creek, and Albion, we can help Veterans keep their dream of home alive – that place that they kept in their hearts during their years of service – and to do so safely.
Senior Care Partners P.A.C.E. brings integrated, comprehensive, compassionate care to people aged 55 and up so that they can live a full and healthier life while staying in their own homes. SCPP coordinates and provides at-home care through a team of health care professionals – medical doctors, physician assistants, nurses practitioners, therapists, dietitians, and medical social workers.
“Too often Veterans are forgotten,” Kemp says. “When you are a Veteran who is already dealing with health issues that come from your years

in service, it can be difficult to stay independent and to remain in your own home. I’ve heard that many Veterans who served our country have returned home only to lose their homes – that is a tragedy. The P.A.C.E. Model allows them to stay in the home they love and meet them where they are.”
“I used to go to Veterans Affairs for my care,” says a Veteran partici- pant at SCPP. “No more. This place
The P.A.C.E. Model, Kemp ex- plains, refers to All-inclusive Care for the Elderly. It is centered on the belief that seniors with chronic care needs and their families are better served in
