portant preparations for the November 3 presidential and city commission election.
I encourage you to consider
voting absentee – I am! Especially because we remain in the COVID-19 pandemic, you can receive your ballot in your home mailbox, vote from the com- fort of your home, and mail back your ballot, or drop it off in the special drop box right outside City Hall. This is an easy, safe, and convenient way to vote.
I encourage you to make sure you are registered to vote, and then vote in this election. Voting is a right we all have, and it is so important to contribute your voice to local, state, and federal government; every person makes a difference in this process.
In late September, when we mailed our largest batch of ballots, we mailed them to about 9,300 of you! And you can apply for, and vote by absentee ballot right up through Election Day. Remem- ber that you must apply for an absentee ballot to receive one.
All of our City of Battle Creek departments and divisions stay busy, but our City Clerk team shines bright right now, as they make the many im-
Contribute Your Voice – VOTE
You have the option to vote in person, on Election Day, but anyone registered to vote also can vote absentee. Michigan law allows anyone to vote absentee, for
no reason. You might remember that there used to be specific criteria for voting absentee, but those are no longer in place.
The city and the Michigan Secretary of State’s Office held a great, informa- tional town hall meeting on September 24, and you can check that out on the city’s YouTube channel, at https://youtu. be/AmsScEgdYwI. You will hear Assis- tant Secretary of State Heaster Wheeler’s recommendation that, if you vote your absentee ballot after mid-October, you should drop it off at City Hall, to be sure it arrives to us on time.
You will find a lot of useful infor- mation on the city’s election webpage, battlecreekmi.gov/elections, including ward and precinct maps, the absentee ballot application, the list of precinct locations, voter registration information, and more. I hope you will check it out for your Election Day needs.
