The Battle Creek Central High School Hall of Fame Board is honored to be celebrating their 15-year anniversary by recognizing and celebrating the accomplish- ments of another group of worthy individuals as well as awarding 15 scholarships to BCCHS graduating seniors. To date, 186 individuals have been acknowledged with
Hall of Fame honors since 2004; and over 45 scholarships awarded since 2007.
These individuals have made exceptional contributions to society and exhibited outstanding lead- ership, a level of competence/ integrity, and service to her/his field or community/country through academics, the arts, or athletics.

during H.S. & late 20s; first reporter to cover an air race from plane in MI in 1925; employed by approx. eight papers during 20s/30s & returned to BC Enq. as medical/science/local history writer; honored by MI Pharma. Assoc. in 1954 for quality columns & in 1959 given the title of “Pharmacy Editor” by local BC Retail Druggist Assoc.; wrote BC centennial book covering 1859-1959; retired 1962; was press relations dir. for MI House of Rep. in 1965-70; kept a collection of 60,000 3x5 cards/clippings/photos (from 1850-1970) & were indexed to 85 3-ring binders on microfilm & then converted to 43 reels of BC history & donated to Willard & Helen Warner Libraries at his death.

BCPS w/approx. 18 yrs. @ BCCHS; public relations co-chair BCPS $69 million bond election (major addition/remodel BCCHS & Valley View) in 2007; Leroy Sparks Aquatic Award recipient in 2008; volunteered for landscaping at all school bldgs.
& rec’d “Above & Beyond Award” from district in 2015; hired by EDU-STAFF as contract employee in 2015; board member/secretary BCCHS Hall of Fame acting as “glue/gopher” for their many suc- cesses in 2012-current; supports/volunteers BC Reg. Hist. Mus., Animal Res. Project, Field House committee, BCC Foundation, Willard Library, Vets Helping Vets, & many others.
FLEMING, William A. (1939 grad) participated
in Political Science Club; Purdue Univ. 1943 grad, BS Aeronautical Engineering; National Advisory committee for Aeronautics (Lewis Re-
search Center) in 1943-58; National Aeronautics & Space Admin. (NASA) in 1958-73. Director of the Manned Lunar Landing Task Force, developed a feasibility plan/study for accomplishing a manned lunar landing mission before 1970 in May 1961; results of this study were published as a 500-page document, known as the “Fleming Report” – this report served as NASA’s blueprint for the Apollo space program; management consultant, Systems Consultants, Inc. and Arthur D. Little, Inc. in 1974- 85; volunteered fulltime with National Air & Space Mus. upon his retirement 1986-98; died 1999, Bethesda, MD.
HARTER, Thomas C.
(1948 grad) participated in football, swimming, baseball, golf; Air Force in 1948-50
& re-enlisted with 12th Fighter Squadron in 1950-52; attended WMU & Wayne State
in 1952-56; BC Parks/Rec. director 1956-86; ran state shuffleboard/city table tennis tournaments
in 50s/60s; established BC Area Youth Recreation board consisting of two reps (boy & girl) from each of the 14 schools where the kids could select their own type of activities 1970; received BC Enq. “George Award” as creator and development of “Floor Hockey” and long-time community service in BC (was known as the Father of Floor Hockey) 1979; inducted into MI Amateur Sports Hall of Fame 1980; received MI Recreation/Park Assoc.’s Fellowship Award 1982; received plaque from BC City Commission commemorating 20 yrs. of floor hockey tourneys in BC 1983 (floor hockey still being played today in BC).
