One Place for All Your Healthcare Concerns – Your Family Doctor
BY BRUCE gALONSKY M.D., DayOne Family healthcare
“You can do that here?” “Don’t I have to see a specialist for that?”
That’s right, often your family doctor can take care of you, and not just when you have a sore throat. Thought you had to see a dermatologist to get a biopsy, a gynecologist to get a pap smear, a psy- chiatrist to treat depression or an en- docrinologist for diabetes? Most of the time your family doctor can do all of that and more – and do it very well. That’s what the providers at DayOne Family Healthcare do.
Family practitioners are uniquely trained to give medical care for a broad range of problems, from acute illness, to chronic issues. They skillfully perform many procedures. Patients may be un- aware that family doctors can care for so many different issues and that a visit to a specialist may not be necessary.
So, I (as a doctor at DayOne Family Healthcare) decided to take the oppor-
tunity to familiarize Scene Magazine readers with the varied and high quali- ty skills possessed by family physicians and their physician assistant and nurse practitioner colleagues.
Services provided by family doctors may include:
• Care for all ages from infants to the
elderly.
• Care for chronic conditions, such as
diabetes, asthma and heart disease.
• Ear, nose and throat care.
• Emergency medical care.
• Minor surgical procedures including
skin biopsies and mole removals.
• Mental and behavioral health care. • Bone and joint care including injec-
tions for painful knees, hips, shoul-
ders, and elbows.
• Well-woman care, reproductive coun-
seling and family planning.
• Care for acute illness – at DayOne
within 24 hours, even on weekends.
• Care for the elderly, including end-of- life planning.
• Injections for tendonitis, headaches and carpal tunnel syndrome.
• Birth control options, including Mirena IUDs and Nexplanons.
• Injections for migraine headaches.
• Circumcisions for the newborn.
• Testosterone injections, Depo-Prove-
ra injections, allergy injections and
blood pressure checks.
• Vasectomies.
• Vaccinations – including childhood
vaccines, influenza vaccines, and many other vaccines.
Sometimes family doctors refer pa- tients to a specialist. Judging when to re- fer is part of our responsibility. We match each patient with the right specialist.
DayOne is a family practice in Battle Creek but we are also a multispecialty group offering the services of a general surgeon and a pediatrician. At DayOne we are committed to our patients, and have someone on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We communicate with our patients and want them to understand their healthcare and we let our patients know all their test results. Our goals are to provide excellent healthcare and great customer service.
DayOne offers convenience. We are open 7 days a week. We are open from 8am-8pm Monday through Thurs- day, 8am-5pm on Friday and 8am-noon Saturday and Sunday. We have walk- in hours Monday through Friday from 8-9:30am.
The passion of the family practitioner is to guide our patients to healthy life- styles, to encourage a healthy diet, to motivate them to exercise, and to help them with smoking cessation. The fam- ily medicine philosophy is to take into account all aspects of health, including physical, emotional and spiritual and not just one body part, or one organ system, in isolation. We know your family and your social situation. We strive to devel- op a good doctor-patient relationship. We want to earn each patient’s trust. Family practice providers have the knowledge and skills to make them your first choice for all of your healthcare needs.
