Exercise and physical activity are both necessary to maintain a healthy body and positive mental outlook through all stages of life. You must continue to move to the best of your ability even as you age. There are untold benefits to physical activity, for example:

  Think of physical activity as an umbrella term and exercise as a TYPE of physical activity.
Physical activity is ANY activi- ty that gets your body moving – it could be activities such as garden- ing, walking the dog, raking leaves, etc. This is different from exercise because exercise is something that is planned and structured such as brisk walking, jogging, lifting weights, tai chi, etc. Physical activity and
sure to speak with your doctor before starting to exercise. Ask if there are any specific activities you should avoid.
Before starting any type of physical activity:
1. Physician Consent – Always be
 2. Start Slow – If you have not exercised in a while, start with gentle routines. Do 10-minute increments 2-3 times a day. Do warm-up and cool-down stretches.
 3. Follow a Schedule – Schedule work out sessions on a daily basis. Make exercising a habit; this will help you stay on track.
