It is no surprise that given the choice each of us would prefer to age in place. When medical concerns arise, or safety issues come up there are options available to remain safely in the home with additional supports. Family caregivers are at the begin- ning of the list and may expand to friends as well as paid in-home care services. Maybe you need to make adjustments to the home or add assistive devices to make living easier. Another option is the MI Choice Waiver, which works with Medicaid dol- lars, or PACE, which works with Medicare dollars. Both have financial and medical requirements. You might choose an inde- pendent facility. Some offer care services on site for an additional fee. Finally moving to the home-like environment of an AFC home or an area assisted living, which will create new opportunities to thrive as your day can now be filled with activities, pre- pared meals, and new friends.
